Peridot is the birthstone for August. Peridot is a very rare stone and is usually found in small pieces. It is the gem variety of the mineral Olivine. It’s been used throughout history by many cultures to keep evil spirits or negative energies away. Peridot is one of the few stones that doesn’t differ in colour, it is always a green/yellow shade.
Peridot is formed deep within the earth's molten rock or upper mantle and brought to the surface by volcanoes. They can even be found in meteorites very rarely as well.
In Hawaii Pele is the goddess of the volcano. Peridot that came out of her volcanoes are considered treasured tears from her and a gift of a healing stone from her. Peridot from Pele is said to bring wealth and growth.
