How To Crack Your Geodes

How To Crack Your Geodes

There isn't anything more exciting than smashing open a geode and being the first person to ever see those crystals hidden inside.

Lets start with what a geode actually is. Geodes are hollow rocks with a hard outer shell which helps protect the crystals growing inside as their enviroment changes. The mineral desposits on the outside of the geode then flow throught their outer shell. Over thousand of years with temperature changes, the right minerals and chemistry involved, the crystals start grow in the once completely hollow rock.

So how do you get into them? Theres a couple different things you can do to get them open, but whichever way you do, please make sure you (and anyone else with you) are wearing eye protection. I will add that you can't guarantee how the geode will crack or how many pieces it might crack into. That being said, there are some methods you can use to help it only crack into two halves.

So the main way I suggest is covering the geode in a tea towel (not one you like) and hitting it with the hammer around the middle of the geode. I would try to crack it in the middle where the geode is the fattest. If you want a more precise split you can use a flathead screwdriver as chizel as you hit around the middle.

If you wanted a more chaotic method, put it in a sock you don't need back and hit it on the ground outside. This method is great for no clean ups after, and no brute force with a hammer.

All my geodes are clear quartz inside so here are some of the things clear quartz is good for:

  • energy amplifying
  • regulates energies
  • absorbs any negative energies in the enviroment
  • balancing
  • revitalising
  • powerful cleansing abilities

I also have some videos of me doing some geode cracking of my own over on tiktok which I'll link below:

Happy geode cracking! I'd love to see photos of all your geodes once you've cracked them!
